where the typhoon hit our foster families, friends, and kmks..

"this a small-time mission, nothin compared to the ones being organized by SagipKapamilya, Ateneo or Red Cross. the main idea of our small mission is to visit the foster families we had during our CBR rotation, as well as the CBR workers. we are not planning, as this would be very impossible to do, to provide for the whole province of montalban. just the people who have been very hospitable to us when we were mere trainees.
its time to give back guys.
at this moment, we have ~20 volunteers from OT, PT, and SP
help can be offered through the following means:
1. donate goods
2. donate cash (so that more goods can be bought)
3. give us your spare time (come with us on sunday)
we have narrowed down and categorized the list then assigned them per discipline to facilitate efficient organization
Food:
*noodles
*Rice
*sardines
Hygiene:
*laundry soap (bar)
*bath soap
*towel
Other basics
*sacks (the goods wil be placed inside sacks so that they can re-use it)
*matches
*big candles
*katol
PTs = Other Basics; SPs = Food; OTs = hygiene
- deadline is on Friday, October 9
- please coordinate with us, via text, preferably - we are willing to pick up your donations within the week OR assign drop off stations.
for CASH donations - you can text the coordinators to pick them up. we will think of a better system for this. pwede kau magsuggest. - we will furnish a list of all donors together with the corresponding donations - we are hoping to collect enough to fill 40 complete packs. 1 pack per family/CBR worker - in case we are unable to gather enough for 40 packs, the volunteers will shoulder purchase of the remaining goods needed;
expenses will be equally divided among all the volunteers
Itinerary on Sunday, October 11 - 6am: meet up at McDonald's Gateway (Aurora Blvd entrance) to pack the goods OR use my tita's house (in san mateo) as repacking station. magpapaalam muna ako. kaya lang mejo malayo na siya from the main road going to monti pero kasi we can finalize plans there. - 7am: en route to Montalban via Jeep (hehe) OR one volunteer offered to use her mom's foundation's van. we'll just have to pay the driver overtime yata. actually the volunteer offered to pay it na. - stop over at one of our schoolmate's house in Gitnang Bayan to check on her and assist her with what the family needs pa. (clothes for 6 to 10 yr kids yung pinakakailangan) - head to Montalban proper - we will be assited by Kuya Onjie and he suggested distributing the goods via door-to-door, so as to prevent causing mob chaos if we setup a station - remember also that - for the packs reserved for farther barangays such as Mascap and Puray, they will just be left in the CBR office for pickup - we will leave by 3-4 pm, before sun down, for our safety

just finished watching this movie, Sophie Scholl: die letzten Tage (the final days)
sophie magdalena scholl is one of the most celebrated german heroes. In the summer of 1942, her brother, Hans Scholl along with other german students from University of Munich crafted 6 anti- Nazi leaflets encouraging passive resistance to the National socialist government and called themselves the white rose. Upon knowing of his brother's movement, Sophie, joined in. And while distributing the 6th leaflet to the corridors of University of Munich for students to read, she and her brother got caught, tried under people's court, convicted for high treason, and sentenced to death by guillotine (Feb 22 1943)
i will never forget how she faced death with a straight face, with no regrets, not even a wince. she stood for what she believed in. and in the end, while that mighty blade thrusted its way through her neck, she never faltered. she knew somehow she will be heard. she knew that all her ideas will be realized..

she did cry. she searched for her GOd. we're going to try to sweep the trail clean going down then sa baba magpupulot tayo ng basura along taal lake..
but..
i realized from all the stories i heard and read about Mt.Maculot, far fetch pala ang idea to rid off the trash.. (ilang bags kaya kelangan natin?)
still, i encourage everyone to come and help us.. or do your own part na lang in reducing the junk from your house, from the streets where you live in, from the class rooms, buses, jeepneys, wherever.. dispose your trash properly and try to reduce the use of plastics.. i said try.. (gagamit din kami ng plastic bags to house all the trash eh) one can never be a perfect environment advocate.
if we reduce our trash and if we dispose them properly, we lessen the amount of toxic polluting our bodies of water and water tables thereby having a more potable water to drink.
i know if you are reading this, you probably don't have any water crisis whatsoever; and you are probably drinking bottled manufactured water, right?when was the last time you drank water from tap? or maybe you find this idea crazy. The point is, it wasn't this way before. people used to drink from their faucets, from the rivers, and lakes.. i know there is what we call urbanization and progress..bottled water had to come with it - it was a necessity. Those people who cannot afford will have to be content with tap, that is, if they have access to one.. and if coupled with problems in sanitation, sakit ang abot nila.
mura pa ang tubig bote ngayon kaya mo pang bumili, hihintayin mo pa ba na mamulubi ka kung pwede ka nang kumilos ngayon? tubig tubig..
but that's just one face.. one of the many faces of the whole environment crisis.. marami pang ibang issues..it's better to start with one na..

today, i opened the windows and the curtains.. to find everything's the same.
it is usually my housemate janel's job but since she's out for a few days, ako muna.
as her usual routine (pagmatino gising nya), she would greet the front street, the houses, and all the inanimate objects around, GOOD MORNING!
si manang nagwawalis, kids playing, mga magsyota going to school etc..
then something occurred, i just knew and felt that "this" is beautiful..
before, during first my few days here, i would marvel how everything changes from an orangy-romantic night to sunny-bright morning to a fiery-red-afternoon...then things got unnoticable..
today should be a good day!
to quote kwek (who just got out the bathroom, drying her hair), "parang ang ganda ng araw ngayon!? look, it's the sun!!!" (pointing out the window).
